ey guys. After a very long silence, now I’m back. I’ve been very busy for the past years to build my software business online. And thanks God, everything is now back to normal.

OK to kick start my post this time, I’ll share my personal experience using an iPad after my friend brought one back from the U.S. Like many people, I use computers all day long, for just about everything. Unlike the technical wizards, I’m don’t mind so much what goes on inside them as long as I can get the job done.

One thing you don’t see in a lot of the forum threads and reviews (both positive and negative) is that the iPad is using a processor made by Apple itself: the A4. This is a very big deal, and it accounts for something else that seems to have been drowned out in the reviews and debates: the iPad is very, very fast.

Yes: the hardware really does look like an overgrown iPod Touch. But start surfing the web, or opening up apps, and you’ll find the big deal is how fast it is compared to the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Compared to my iPhone, the speed at which web pages load is amazing. Every app I tried ran lightning fast.

I’m not sure where the criticism about the wide frame (officially called a “bezel”) around the screen comes from. If you don’t have it, your thumbs end up on the screen, where it can easily register as a touch. And since it’s an entirely touch screen machine, you don’t want that happening. Hence the frame / thumb rest.

Say what you will about Apple or about Steve Jobs, but Apple has done more to move the computer from the work desk into every aspect of daily life than any other tech company. One reason they have succeeded on such an enormous financial scale is that technical specifications (while impressive, I’m sure) are de-emphasized in favor of clear, obvious answers to the question “What do I want this device to do?” The fact that Apple has been fairly open about the new processor tells me that while the foremost emphasis on user experience has not changed, they have competently taken care of the stuff under the hood that makes it run.

If I get my own iPad, I will have to get a keyboard for it. The on-screen keyboard is fine for the kind of pecking you do when using typical apps, but if you do any amount of writing for your job, touch screen typing is not going to cut it. My own experience when it comes to the lack of a webcam and inability to run Flash has basically been, “Who cares?” Maybe that means I’ve been thoroughly indoctrinated into the Apple culture by having an iPhone and an iPod, but I have a feeling that once the apps start being cranked out in earnest, those two sticking points will rapidly become irrelevant.

And if they don’t, it’s likely that the second generation of iPad will address those concerns competently and put them to rest once and for all. While it’s pretty obvious from this review that I’m more in the “revolutionizes the human-machine relationship” camp, I also don’t think the iPad is a netbook killer. Rather it’s an all-purpose family machine that is going to see a lot of use in a very short time.

Not even a week has passed since the iPad was announced and already we’re flush with more rumors. First, take a look at that image above. It’s a screengrab taken at the 9 minute and 9 second mark into last week’s iPad media event. Looks like an embedded iSight camera, right? Problem is, the iPad spec sheet doesn’t list a webcam to the dismay of many. Don’t buy it? Well, what if we told you that Mission Repairhas received spare parts (image posted after the break) that appear to show a space for a camera module in exactly the same spot. In fact, the module pulled from a unibody MacBook is a perfect fit inside the iPad bezel. Still not sold Mr. Doubtypants? Ok, then what about the code that enables video call support in OS 3.2 or that protected engineering prototype we saw just one day before launch showing a cutout at precisely the same spot so as to not obscure whatever was underneath? True, the glint we see above could just be the ambient light sensor… but what fun is that when mongering conspiracy theories?

Now, what if we told you that we’re already hearing about the next version of the iPad? Wait, before you go excluding all the Apple news you might like to know that TechCrunch is privy to talk of a larger iPad that functions “more like a Mac than an iPhone.” A touchscreen tablet that could be as big as 15.4 inches and runs a touch-enabled version of OS X more similar to that found on today’s Mac laptops, desktops, and servers. It’s possible, we guess, though such a tablet would be counter to the arguments made at the iPad launch where Jobs and Co praised the device for being purpose-built to excel at specific tasks –TechCrunch‘s device sounds like a general purpose machine. Still, it does jibe with talk of a 22-inch iMac with touchscreen so let’s wait and see what bubbles up to the surface.

The president of Shenzhen Great Loong Brother, Wu Xiaolong, told to El Mundo,Spanish newspaper that “I was very angry and suprised two days ago when I saw the news of the iPad presentation”,Apple’s iPad is a replica of Shenzhen Great Loong Brother’s tablet with similar functions and it’s really a copy of P-88 tablet.”It is certainly our design.”

Xiaolong is threatening legal action against Apple if it attempts to sell the iPad in China because it will certainly affect our sales .

So how similar is the iPad to Wu’s tablet, which is variously identified by Great Loong as the P88, Tablet PC-P88, and P-P-P88, and which appears remarkably similar to the company’s P-P-I88, P-P-P68, and others?

Not much. In point of fact, the P88 and its brethren more closely resemble not only many previous Windows-based tablet PCs, but also the proposed “slate” from HP that Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer waved at a keynote crowd during last month’s Consumer Electronics Show.

The new Amazon Kindle DX has a few weeks to live—and the magazine and newspaper industries may not have much longer. As soon as Apple unleashes the rumored iPad, Amazon‘s attempt at hardware design will vanish quicker than Betamax. Amazon won’t mind, but magazine and newspaper publishers sure will.

Apple and Amazon could be the best of enemies. Look at their entirely complimentary business strategies. Amazon sells content. The company went into the hardware business to spur more e-book sales. It intends to make a killing selling e-textbooks for the newKindle DX. Yeah, sure, Amazon makes money on the Kindle, but its heart is in the books. Apple sells hardware. Apple became the world’s leading online media store so it could sell more iPods. Its heart is in the iPods.

Enter the iPad. The Apple people usually complain about how much they hate a product category just before they enter it. Recently, Apple’s COO Tim Cook said that he thinks netbooks are pretty useless, and that the iPod touch is Apple’s netbook. This feeds into BusinessWeek’s rumor about the “iPad”—a $699 tablet that would look like a bigger iPod touch.

Apple hates netbooks because netbooks cannibalize notebooks. But the company would love to sell another Apple device into homes. The iPad doesn’t replace anything Apple currently sells. You type on your laptop at your desk. You surf with your iPhone while on the go. But you’d relax with an iPad on the couch, prop it up by your bed, or rest it on the airplane tray table. That’s all stuff you do with existing devices, of course, but an iPad would make it more natural, just as a Kindle does.

The Kindle DX seems to have three primary markets: textbooks, newspapers, and magazines. Other companies, including Hearst and News Corp., are said to be going into the media pad space to save their magazine subscription dollars. They’re doomed. In exchange for your monthly contract, the iPad will give you the whole Internet, and 35,000 iPod touch applications, including—get this!—the Amazon Kindle application.

Amazon won’t stress out about this too much. It will still be selling e-books, and now it will be selling e-textbooks, too. The big losers will be newspapers and magazines that hope to sell Kindle subscriptions. They’ll be forced to put their free Web sites behind a pay wall or find some other way of making money. Textbook companies and traditional book publishers aren’t in so much danger, because they’ve never offered all of their content online free.

The iPad also won’t just be an e-book/Internet reader. It’s sure to be a terrific media player—a sort of widescreen iPod, the perfect thing for watching a movie in bed or on the plane. Apple won’t position it as a general-purpose computer, as the company doesn’t want to cannibalize its MacBook business.

Don’t worry too much about the iPad’s $699 price. Apple has been open to carrier subsidies, which typically shave $200 or more off the price of a device in exchange for locking you into a contract. That business model has been tremendously successful—so successful that unlocked phones, while available in the U.S., have never been able to take off. Apple has also always had strong relationships with colleges and universities, so we’re sure to see educational discounts to promote the iPad as a virtual textbook.

The iPad’s monthly fee will be a sticking point, of course, but it’s not an insurmountable one. Verizon’s new Open Development Initiative has been letting makers of non-voice devices roll their own service plans. The ODI hasn’t been used for a big consumer device yet, but it could let Apple roll out an iPad with bucket plans for data at various tiers; an on-device data meter could tell people when it’s time to buy more. So far, the ODI hasn’t been compatible with subsidies, but Verizon seems to be very enthusiastic about working with Apple; maybe together they could make this work.

The big question is whether Apple will release an iPad at its next big press event on June 8, or whether it will decide to wait. Typically, Apple announces products in June, September-ish and January-ish. It will announce the iPad when it’s ready, whenever that is. But Amazon and the magazine companies shouldn’t just be preparing competing devices: They should be preparing new business models for the new world where anyone can access Web content on a large-format pad, anywhere, at any time.

A Chinese company is claiming that its iPad knockoff is in fact an original design that has been copied by Apple. The P88 has been on the market in China for six months. It’s easy to recognize: It looks just like a big iPhone.

Xiaolong Wu, the president of the Shenzhen Great Loong Brother company that makes the P88, gave an interview to Spanish national newspaper El Mundo. If the iPad comes to China, he says, “We won’t have any choice but to report them,” because “it will certainly affect our sales.” The charge? Oddly, El Mundo reports the crime as “plagiarism,” although we assume it means IP or copyright infringement.

Wu says that Apple has not only copied the concept of a multitouch tablet, but also the design of the case and screen bezel. And pre-empting our obvious criticism, that the P88 is just a large-scale iPhone or iPod Touch rip-off, Wu says that “they have nothing to do with it, as they have completely different functions.”

As you can see from the picture above, Wu is being rather generous when he describes the P88 and the iPad as “completely identical”. The specs tell a different story. The 10.2-inch screen isn’t multitouch (it uses resistive touch), the P88 uses a hard-drive (250 GB), has an Ethernet port, a 1.3-MP webcam and Intel 945GSE chipset (likely to be paired with an Atom CPU, not listed) with a gig of RAM. It also runs Windows.

The kicker, though, is the battery life, low even for a keyboard-less netbook, which is what this is. Without the power cord you get just 1.5 (claimed) hours.

The whole story is ridiculous, and most likely a cheap play for publicity. Anyone confusing the two products deserves the P88. What is clear is that the Chinese company squeezed a (very bad) netbook into an oversized iPhone-style case and claimed to have some kind of ownership of this design. Good luck, Mr. Wu.

And one final thing. How much do you think this “cheap” Chinese copy might cost? It is $525. Oops.

Will Chinese consumers have to wait as long for the iPad to arrive in China as they have for Apple’s previous big products?

The American maker of computers and gadgets cool enough to spark crime waves hasn’t had nearly the same amount of success in China as it’s had elsewhere, for a number of reasons—one big one being that Apple often takes a while to start selling its new products here.

For years, Apple maintained a skeletal operation in China, relative to its competitors. It wasn’t until 2008 when it opened its first (and still lone) Apple store in the country, even though the world’s most populous nation has long been the world’s biggest market for cell phones, and the second-biggest market for PCs, and has more Internet users than any other nation. Most gizmo companies—Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Nokia, etc—have made China a top priority, and fought vigorously for market share. Many of their CEOs visit China at least once every year (some even more often). It’s unclear when Apple’s Steve Jobs last came to China—or, indeed, if he’s ever been here (the company has declined to say).

Apple plans to launch the iPad in the U.S. in late March. It hasn’t said when it will start selling iPads in China—its announcement Wednesday said “international pricing and worldwide availability will be announced at a later date.” But within a day of the announcement in San Francisco, it had plastered its Chinese homepage with photos of the 9.7-inch touch-screen tablet, raising hopes that Chinese consumer may get their hands on the device sooner than they were able to get officially-released iPhones, which took more than two years to be launched here (By contrast, Apple didn’t put info about the iPhone on its Chinese site when that product was launched in the U.S.)

In the past, as Apple has bided its time, knock-off makers and gray-market importers have always been quick to step in to meet consumer demand for Apple or Apple-like products. When Apple officially launched the iPhone in China last year, many Chinese who wanted it already had it, and many who were holding out bought Android phones instead. Sales of the official iPhones in China were underwhelming. Likewise, iPods are also nowhere near as commonly seen on the streets of Beijing as they are in New York, and Macs make up less than 1% of PC shipments in China.

The iPad’s been greeted with more skepticism than new Apple gizmos usually are, and Chinese users are no exception. “To be frank, I don’t need something in between a mobile and a laptop,” said one Internet user under the name “LLL” on the Chinese version of Engadget.com. “The fact that it doesn’t support multi-tasking drives me crazy,” another user said, under the name “sautao.”

Still, 40% of respondents to a Phoenix TV survey on the iPad said they would buy the device. The copycats and gray-marketers are prepared for Apple to make the same go-slow mistakes it has before. Already, there are some iPad lookalikes on the market, including something called the P88 made by a Chinese company called Shenzhen Great Loong Brother Industrial, which has a slightly larger screen and more disk space (though it should be noted the iPad’s charms lie largely in its software, so the devices are hardly comparable).

Meanwhile, just before the iPad showed up on Apple’s Chinese Web site, gray market sellers started taking orders, too, with plans to sell the $499 model for a markup of almost $450, promising to deliver the iPad within four weeks after it hits the market in the U.S.
